This is clearly not a new idea but still, there isn't an automobile out there that offers this option. Just as when you are seated in an amusement park ride - statistically safer than driving - a bar is lowered, those fine automobile co's struggling to win consumers should consider adding some degree of automatic protection.
Certainly there exists a statistic which states what percentage of accidents and fatalities - I am reminded of Senator Corzine of New Jersey - could have been avoided by a simple belt. But alas, we humans, me included can be lazy, distracted, whatever, and we sometimes fail to take immediate responsibility for ourselves.
Probably an astounding amount of money could be saved in insurance premiums and medical bills, and equally important the grief and trauma of a serious accident, if adults were given very little choice and not as much to do, in order to protect themselves.
I bet someone out there has a design for this. Seems like a good time to present ideas to the auto industry, do you think?
I am a frequent driver who always puts my seatbelt on, but there is usually a lag - in seconds - though every second counts in an accident. I think serious accidents where people get hurt, hurt us all - through higher insurance premiums, a more expensive medical system, more traffic and rubbernecking (see Rubberneck Eliminator on IDEASTOX).
