It feels very sinful to put up an idea about a gym that has nothing to do with saving power, but I am assuming that between all of the green gym ideas going, you will have already convinced the gym that employs Gym Games to be green.
I tend to be competitve when it comes to sports. I am not proud of this. It has both come in handy in my life and it has been destructive as well. So somewhere in the middle I have landed on this trait but I think this idea can be useful for both ends of the competitive spectrum.
Multiplayer Gym Games allow treadmill users or bikers to opt-into a collective ongoing race. The system logs users in and tracks results daily, weekly, monthly even to pit one runner against another, once cyclist against another on a variety of apples to apples metrics.
Game developers, I know you are an independent lot and probably convinced you can develop this on your own. May I suggest you consult with athletes and gym-rats who can steer you along the many small decisions you will need to make as you develop this software.
