Take a moment and think about how many things you have to "maintain" in your life...
There's yourself...when was my last dentist appointment? Do I need to see my doctor anytime soon?
There's your car...when do the tires need to be rotated? When am I due for my next oil change?
There's your home....when do I need to schedule my next pest control visit? If I have hardwood floors, aren't I supposed to refinish every couple of years? Is there grout somewhere I need to reseal????
Now, let's say you have kids...when do I need to schedule each of my children's next well-check with their doctor? Do they have one at 18 months, or am I supposed to wait until 24 months? How old do they need to be when they first go to the dentist? Do I have any upcoming school registrations or parent conferences?
How about family birthdays, lawnmower maintenance, sporting events, tax payments?
Who can keep all this straight????
Not me, that's for darn sure. So, how to solve the problem: there are lots of websites that offer partial solutions to managing each of these different aspects of life organization. And of course, I can try to keep this all organized in my google calendar, or iPod, or the old-fashioned way
However, what I would love to see is one, online, consolidated calendar that not only organizes all this for me, but is "smart" about what each type of entry on my calendar really means AND helps me figure out what needs to be on my calendar in the first place.
Here are some examples of why my calendar is unique:
1. Some items I want to remind me until I say I'm done (Schedule my dog's annual vet appointment). Some items will remind me once and then stop (birthdays). Some items I may just want to sit on my calendar, but not notify me (my daughter's Tuesday afternoon gymnastics class).
2. Some items will repeat forever or for a time (tax payments due, give the dog her heartworm pill), where some can be one-time events.
3. It helps me figure out what needs to be on my calendar through a series of "wizards" asking questions like "Do you have kids? How many/ages?" (to figure out when I need to schedule well-check exams). Or "Do you have granite countertops?" (to remind me to reseal them annually). Or "How old are you? Are you a man or a woman?" (to figure out what routine checkups I should have).
There's a lot more to this idea. I think this has the power to seriously simplify life by taking all this overhead out of our brains and getting it in one consolidated place!
