The Erewhon health food store does this in Hollywood, CA and they are to be credited with such a simple and basic idea - they offer free, fresh popped popcorn from a real popper (movie style but better for some reason), self-serve, to their shoppers. Here's why this is genius: I see it and ask my Mom for it as soon as we enter the store. My hands are still clean at this point so I don't have to wash hands before I eat. I'm always hungry anyway so that's another plus, (hey, I'm 4). #2, Me and my Mom are less eager to rush out and get home and make dinner or eat a snack because we have a satsifying one we can share while we shop. #3, we spend more time in the store, which means we spend more which is good for the store. Popcorn Shopping is definitely the way Ralph's, Vons, Publix, etc...should consider going. And perhaps they have someone hand it out so that it doesn't get too yucky in the larger stores. VOTE, you know you want to shop in a food store with a bag of popcorn. So much more fun.
