I like the idea of roataries. In theory, they don't force you to stop and start your car at major intersections which saves gas and time. If we replaced stop signs for rotaries we might be more efficient in several ways.
There is also a growing school of thought that rotaries are safer, as they force us to pay more attention.
However, I recently visited Riverhead, NY where there is a popular Aquarium (Long Island), and there was a major rotarty where the 104 met the 25, among other local roads. We waited for 15 minutes to get through the roatary. Perhaps the DOT needs to do a study of intersections, rotaries, stop signs and the like, in light of our renewed efforts to save gas and other natural resources.
I always think it's a good idea to study things so that there is objective information to make a decision. If rotaries generally work, let's create more of them. If they don't, let's get rid of them.
