The amount of mail which contains nothing but one-sided solicitations is wasting more paper, more energy than the amount of mail we actually still receive. Many people have moved to electronic billing, but still our magazine subscriptions, invitations and the occasional old-fashioned letter are perfectly suited to the USPO. Junk mail has to stop. We need legislation and we need technology. The snail mail blocker is similar to email spam blockers...only the data is held by USPO so that the snail mail gets returned and a fee is charged on every return to the original sender. If the sender is on your spam list, they'll figure it out soon enough as they rack up the fees...trying to send you paper once a month will just cost them too much. We will save so much paper. This coupled with legislation could save millions of trees, hours of time, capacity at recycling plants, etc... No downside.
